
2025 Week 4 MCLA Recap: Northeastern's Quiet Rise, Cal Poly Undefeated and Arizona State Over Georgia
Northeastern quietly moves into #2 in the country
Huskies beat DII Bridgewater State and conference opponent, Buffalo, over the weekend. Not big wins, but they moved into No. 2 in the poll because of some upsets. This weekend they will play Colorado in Boulder and then head north to Fort Collins to play Colorado State.
Cal Poly stays undefeated
Mustangs pick up a conference win over Stanford to move to 5-0. Freshman Will Hagman led all scorers with four goals and an assist. They will play in the Game of the Week this weekend when they host No. 3 Arizona State.
Arizona State gives UGA first loss
The Sun Devils came up huge in Tempe on Thursday night, taking down a dominant Georgia team. Midfielder Nick Eck had five goals and an assist while Justin Yoon, Aidan Cox, and Hudson Murakami held things down on defense. They will head to San Luis Obispo this weekend to take on No. 3 Cal Poly, another undefeated team.
Florida stuns Utah Valley in Gainesville
The Gators saw eight different players record a point in their 14-13 overtime win over then No. Utah Valley. Ethan Gerber led scoring with four goals and Dylan Hess (1G/2A) fed Ethan Heim (3G) for the goal as time ran out in the 1st OT period. The defense stood tall, keeping UVU to under 20 goals for the first time this season. Senior pole Liam Storkerson had two ground balls to go with five caused turnovers.
Georgia Tech clinches SELC Playoff spot
After taking down South Carolina over the weekend, GT has a SELC Playoff spot locked in. Their end of season game against Georgia will determine first place in SELC North. Attackman Brooks Baro leads the country in points with 33, and his linemates Joseph Rose and Pierce Quarles aren’t far behind with 29 and 27 points.
Utah Valley splits weekend in Florida
The Wolverines came into Tallahassee Thursday night and left with a dominant win over FSU. Blake Yates set a program record with eight goals, and Jacob Lundin won 17 faceoffs, only losing two, while also adding a goal. UVU dropped a tough one to Florida in OT the next game. The Goalie tandem of Max Sturgill and Patrick Thomas still played well, each making 10+ saves.
Florida State drops one, picks up road upset
After losing a tough one to UVU at home, the Seminoles bounced back with a win over then No. 3 Texas in Austin. 12 different players recorded a point in the 18-11 win led by Matthew Wyatt and Richard Savage who each had five points. LSMs Scott Chapman and Jack Schiffl each had four caused turnovers and both won a couple faceoffs.
San Diego State survives two scares
San Diego State went down 6-0 in the first quarter against Cal, but came back to win 12-11, which included an eight goal fourth quarter. The next day they went into overtime against unranked Sonoma State, but won it in OT to 3-1. Luc Schneider led all scoring with 11 points between the two games.
UCSB, Chapman, Colorado, Colorado State all finish 1-1 over weekend
CU and CSU headed west to each take on UCSB and Chapman. The first day saw the two RMLC teams winning. Buffs beat the Gauchos 12-11 in Santa Barbara and the Rams took down the Panthers 13-11 in Orange. On Sunday, the California teams bounced back and Chapman took down Colorado and UCSB defeated Colorado State, both games by 1-2 goals. All four teams look like they can make a run at Nationals and all four still have plenty of tough games ahead.
Utah takes down SFU, gets into rankings
After losing their second game to unranked USC, things were looking tough for the Utes. They have since turned it around with a win over a team just outside the rankings in Arizona and a ranked win over Simon Fraser. Senior attackman Aidan Wallace had four goals and an assist.
St. Thomas wins MCLA DII National Championship rematch
Baldwin Wallace transfer Joe Torborg scored six goals and had three assists in the Tommies win over Montana State, the team that bested them in last season’s DII Finals. All-American goalie Gunner Arens was outstanding, finishing with 17 saves on 60% save percentage.
FAU scores 22 points in Top 10 DII match-up
FAU vs. Kennesaw State was shaping up to be a close game between two highly ranked teams. The Owls of Florida put those assumptions to rest, defeating the Owls of Georgia 22-7 in Naples. Grad student Ryan Kerr put up seven goals along with three assists.
